Learning to be the Hands and Feet of Jesus

Written by Elena Maria

September this year we started a discipleship/evangelism group with a group of people from our base church here in Dondo. Our goal is to disciple the Mozambican church and teach them how to evangelize the way Jesus did it.

Thursdays we meet and learn from the Bible why it is is important we do this and after we go out in the village for a hands on application and share the Good News with the people in our community.

Some of the people in the group have already learned what it means to evangelize and have shown they understand, but some, just like the disciples who walked with Jesus have a bit of a journey to understanding.

I believe that we have to trust and believe in the Holy Spirit that He will give understanding and He will be the one who is going to teach them, what to say and when to say it. Just as Jesus did with the disciples, I take the group out and teach them by example.

The vision for the future is for them to do it by themselves in their community and those who are teachers and evangelists, we will go to other churches and empower fellow Mozambicans to pass on what they have learned.

Last week we split into groups and at the end and shared testimonies of how the day went. We found lost sheep that want to go back to the church and also had a person give their life to Jesus!!

On Tuesdays we go to the local hospital to pray for the sick and comfort those in need. Before we went this week we looked at Matthew 4:23 “Jesus went throughout Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the good news of the kingdom, and healing every disease and sickness among the people.” I told the team that our Galilee is Dondo and our synagogue is the Hospital. So like Jesus we will go and preach the good news.

We found a mama that has been living in a displacement camp because of the cyclone and has nothing. She came to the hospital with the clothes she was wearing, with her was one of her daughters and grand babies, one of the ladies on our team was moved by compassion and returned the next day with some cloths for her baby that she still had from her own children.

We also went later and brought her some shoes, a capulana, and bedding.

She was so happy.

Jesus also gave strength into her body as she couldn’t get out of the bed but when we went there the next day she could get up.

Jesus is amazing!!!

I am so excited to see what the Lord is doing through this group and how He is going to reach His bride through the Mozambican people.

All glory to him!
