Many children, few schools

Written by Jill

Dear friends and family,

I recently returned from a wonderful time of refreshing and fellowship at the Iris Family Gathering and the Live to Love Conference in South Africa. I feel truly blessed and left Conakry to visit some of our out of town churches the day after I got home. I greatly enjoy visiting these churches and seeing the wonderful work God is doing with our dedicated pastors as they establish truly God-centered churches across this nation.

Before going to South Africa I was busy settling our family into our new home, getting through two months of school holidays as it rained almost every day, and visiting some of our local churches and Hope Academies.

Perhaps you have read that almost 700 of the children we took off the streets last year and put into the schools we established in our church buildings, passed their exams at the end of this school year. We are so proud of them and they are starting to look forward to their futures with a vision and hope. They are all looking forward to the coming school year and we are sure that all will do very well.

One worrying thing we spotted whilst visiting the schools, was a village which is 12 kilometers from the nearest school in Coyah, and most of the children in this village don't go to school because they cannot afford the busfare to get there.

We want to establish a church in this village but, although we have the land, we do not yet have the funds to build the church building but, when we do, we will turn the building into a school during the week for the children who can't afford bus fare to the school in Coyah.

We have a similar problem in the area around our new home, no church building and many children needing a school to attend, so we are praying for the money required (About $25,000 for both buildings) so that we can start two new churches and hopefully see at least 2000 children pass another school year next September.

I would also love to see our small verandah on the house extended by the next long school holidays so that the children have more room to play outside when it rains, but that project will have to wait until God provides money for us to complete the two church and school buildings.

Please pray for these two projects, plus our verandah extension, and if you have any questions or suggestions please contact me at irisguinea@gmail.com

We greatly appreciate your prayers and all send our love
