Single mothers in Cité Soleil

Written by Flore Meyer

We primarily provide support to women, recognizing that they are unfortunately often left to take care of their children on their own. We also welcome families with highly engaged fathers, but unfortunately, they are not the majority of cases. Whether it's an unexpected pregnancy, rape, an absent father, or the death of a spouse, so many situations leave these women alone and vulnerable. That's why we are here, by their side.
During the month of June, we welcomed two new mothers into our program. The first is married and expecting her second child. The parents are struggling to provide for their family's needs. The second mother is only 17 years old and expecting her first baby. She is already taking care of her four siblings as an orphan. We are doing everything we can to find housing for her and her loved ones outside the difficult environment of Cité Soleil.
By supporting these mothers and enabling them to care for their children, we often break a painful cycle. Those who have grown up without their own parents are determined not to repeat the same pattern with their own children. They want to offer their little ones the love and attention they may not have experienced themselves. It is an honor to contribute to this positive change and family transformation.
Every step we take alongside these women is a step towards restoration, trust, and autonomy. We provide them with concrete support, but above all, we offer them a glimmer of hope and the certainty that they are not alone in their journey. We are starting to see hearts opening, lives touched by God, and we expect the Holy Spirit to work in each of their lives.
