2025

ANNUAL REPORT

Founders' Letter

On behalf of Iris Global, may your 2026 be filled with joy, hope, love, faith, and the constant renewal of life that is in Jesus. May your hearts be directed always by the Lord, and guarded by His peace. Wherever you are and whatever challenges have come, we encourage you to give thanks and trust always in the salvation that Christ has promised.

  • On a personal level, Rolland and I want to express our deepest gratitude for the prayers that so many of you have offered during the past year for our multiple health challenges. As some of you know, I underwent several spinal surgeries in the fall, and Rolland underwent hospitalization for a serious heart condition. Jesus has been very near to us during this challenging season. Our hearts remain more fixed on our calling than ever, and after some required medical recovery time we are returning to our beloved ministry in northern Mozambique with joy. As always, we depend on grace to sustain us every day of our lives. Thank you for standing with us.

We are more proud than ever of the magnificent work being accomplished by the Iris Global team around the world. As I write this I am preparing to travel and speak with our dear friends in Canada, Mexico, and Brazil. Being especially close to the university and outreach programs in Pemba, Rolland and I can’t wait to rejoin them in person and enjoy the flourishing of our students and professors. Over the last year, Iris Global has distributed over seven million meals across its various ministry locations, including more than four million in the north of Mozambique, where need is especially great among internally displaced peoples fleeing internal conflicts. Our various teams have been caring for roughly seventeen thousand children. Eighteen thousand audio Bibles were distributed in Cabo Delgado, and nearly sixteen thousand new ministers attended Iris training programs. After two decades of preparation, Iris University’s first year of academic operations has been a special delight to witness. Many other programs are now operating in cooperation with it, including community cleanup, recycling, vegetable gardening, small business startups, and more. There is still so much to build and an incredibly great harvest to gather. Your love and support are an indispensable part of everything we do, and we will never forget it. Great blessings to you all.

“Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.” — Galatians 6:9-10

    With much love in Jesus,

    -Rolland & Heidi

“He [God] loves to show His heart. He loves to take the things which are not, and use them to nullify the things that are. He does not rest until He reaches the utterly lost and lonely. He overturns the worst that Satan can do and glorifies Himself.”

WORSHIP

“The most important thing we can do with our whole entire life is not to be a missionary, not to be a great pastor, not to be a great teacher, great videographer. The most important thing is that we find God.”

– Rolland Baker

Worship in Mocimboa da Praia, Mozambique

Our ministry is located in an active war zone which is specifically targeting Christians. Despite this, our churches are growing and disciples are being added almost daily to the Kingdom of God! In October one of our pastors got a phone call from someone in a neighborhood that has always been …

  • considered hostile to the Gospel as it was 100% of another faith. The caller told our pastor that if we came now to plant a church in their neighborhood it would immediately fill because everyone there is now wanting to follow Jesus! Several of our churches in the north have all given the same report. “Our church services are so full that we had no more room inside the building and people are standing outside to worship Jesus!” These are churches in villages that have been attacked even recently. The national pastors and leaders are absolute heroes of the faith and the glory of God is rising on His people in the midst of deep darkness, just as Isaiah 60 proclaims! Thousands are coming into the Kingdom of God in the midst of terror. Jesus has won! Victory is His!

Prisoners Heard
the Gospel

Outreach in Nacala, Mozambique

Ministry is expanding in Nacala, Mozambique and this year we started a prison outreach program. A small team of five goes every week into the prison to share the Gospel, cook for the inmates, and even provide small gestures of love like soap. The love of Jesus has swept through the prison! So far, over 50 people have come to know Jesus …

  • through this outreach. Our team prays fervently for the prisoner to be set free and it is a celebration every time someone is released from prison. The best part is that when they get released, they go back to their homes (which are often very far out of the city) and they share the Gospel and plant churches. We now refer to the jail as our "missionary training center" because so many people hear about Jesus, accept Him, and then get released to share the Gospel back at their homes.

“We want an outpouring of the Holy Spirit where people encounter Jesus and all His glory and power and they get a huge foretaste of the powers of the age to come. That's what we're here for. So we deliberately started with the least likely, a little town in the poorest province in the poorest country with everything against us.”

Family in Dakar, Senegal

Family is not an accident—it is God’s design. A sacred space where His love is made tangible, especially for those the world has overlooked. In Senegal where institutional care has long been the norm, God is rewriting the story.

In 2016, the directors of Iris Dakar welcomed a …

  • three-day-old boy into their home, trusting God to awaken Senegalese Christian families to the call of foster care. Soon, a couple staying with them witnessed this radical love firsthand.

They joined outreaches, heard God’s whisper about family, and caught the vision. By 2019, they opened their home to a 14-year-old boy — nonverbal, traumatized, with no living family. Today, he speaks two languages, cooks, gardens, and thrives.

This family has since welcomed eight foster children (four reunited again with biological families) and raised two biological kids. Their home is a testament to Isaiah 58:7 about the true fasting lived out in the day to day: “Is it not to share your food with the hungry and to provide the poor wanderer with shelter — when you see the naked, to clothe them…”

Their story became a catalyst. Three years ago, Senegal’s social welfare ministry in partnership with UINCEF Senegal and Save the Children International began drafting laws to formalize foster care nationally and invited us to lend our expertise.

Now, the foster father represents Iris in a government think tank, advocating for family-based care.

This year, he presented our model to magistrates, social welfare directors, and high officials. Their verdict? This is Senegal’s best system. Together, we are pioneering a national foster care movement — proving that family, not institutions, is God’s answer for the fatherless. This is more than policy. It’s the Gospel in motion.

Education in Pemba, Mozambique

Iris University opened on February 25 and has concluded its first year! The inaugural undergraduate class was 501 strong and included 89 masters track students. One student, Âmido, who is studying Environmental Engineering was able to enroll because he was selected by the Mieze church to receive …

  • a full scholarship. “I never thought about studying at a University due to my financial status — I didn’t even dream about it. I attended the Iris high school and it is one of the best! It is known for having the best students in Pemba.

No one in my family has ever attended University. I don’t think anyone has even finished 10th grade. My mother is especially happy for me — she encouraged me to continue studying. My motivation isn’t just to get a piece of paper, but to be a skilled and well-developed person to transform our country. I am so grateful for the faithful person who was touched by God's love to provide for my tuition so I could have the chance to study. I believe this person didn’t just give this scholarship to support me, but they were touched by God to see there are people in the world who don’t have finances, but who need to study.”

Relief in Mieze, Mozambique

Mario & Paulina Bombas have served at the Iris farm in Mieze since 2013. Their family of five is a pillar of strength to the farm team and leads with integrity, excellence, and joy. Because Mario is from the Makonde tribe he has also poured himself out on behalf of the displaced people fleeing violence and they have opened their home to hundreds of people needing temporary shelter.

  • On the night of December 14, Cyclone Chido bared down on Cabo Delgado. Mario shielded his family by wrapping a mattress around them. They clung to each other for hours not knowing if they would survive or not. When the storm lifted they had miraculously survived but their house was in shambles — like most of the buildings in the region. The Bombas got right to work checking in on neighbors, family, and the farm team. The destruction was enormous, but by keeping their eyes on Jesus the team is making steady progress toward recovery.
Thanks to incredible compassion and generosity we are rebuilding in northern Mozambique — and among those getting a new home are Mario and his family! A few months ago he got the surprise of a lifetime. “I am speechless with this news! I am so full of joy and emotion and my heart is racing. I never expected anything like to happen — even after the cyclone came and took everything. I just want to say thank you so much. God bless you everyone who gave for this to be possible. I am no one that I should deserve this kind of gift. But I know very well it’s God who is doing all of this. I’m trying to find the right words to say but my heart just keeps exploding!”

“As Heidi and I found out, it's a cup of joy and suffering. And the main question Jesus asks us is, ‘Will you drink it? Both the joy and suffering.”’

Development in Phnom Penh, Cambodia

In the middle of Phnom Penh's red light district along the banks of the Tonle Sap River, a former strip club has been transformed into a charming coffee shop. The Chomno Café is part of the Iris team's vision to break the cycle of poverty and introduce people to Jesus and His hope. Chomno means "tide" in Khmer and that is exactly what the team is hoping to reverse — from a groundswell of death and destruction to a steady stream of life and love.

  • At the café, they provide a safe place for discipleship, English classes, worship nights, and vocational & life-skills training. Since Chomno opened in April, two women formerly in the sex tourism industry have completed intensive training in order to open their own cafés. Another young lady who had been labor trafficked is starting an internship to learn job and life skills to boost her confidence and give her the tools she needs to improve her career options. These are the first fruits of many more stories of redemption and transformation to come!

“God loves to start with nothing because He loves to prove what He can do with nothing.”

Healing in Lisbon, Portugal

Our team in Lisbon is very invested in the Roman Gypsy community and they have a vibrant outreach & discipleship program there. One woman named Paula has had a very difficult journey out of an abusive marriage and ended up being a single mother to her seven children. Paula was so happy when one of her daughters married a wonderful man and then was overjoyed to learn they were pregnant.

  • However, the family was devastated when the baby was diagnosed in utero with Trisomy 21. They had the doctors test and retest three times and each time the results confirmed the baby had Trisomy 21. As a family they decided to fast and pray for a miracle. During this time, they felt from the Lord to name the baby after the Apostle Paul (Paulo in Portuguese) and that he would be healed and he would be bold in sharing his testimony. In September, Paulo was born perfectly fine — he's happy and healthy and his family can’t stop testifying to the goodness of God!

The family said they have learned to pray and to believe in miracles now so this is what they will do always!

“God gives us brilliant minds and medical solutions and supernatural miracles. There are many ways to be healed, but Jesus is the healer.”

THE ARTS

Arts in Managua, Nicaragua

The sewing program in Managua is a great example how God uses the practical things to raise people up and invite them into His kingdom. Through this program, God is transforming lives and giving women a reason and a purpose. Five years ago, the women in our program were working at the garbage dump — it was the only job they knew how to do.

  • When the dump suddenly closed they were left with nothing, but the Lord had a better plan. Before the dump closed, the Lord provided sewing machines and we didn't understand what the Lord wanted us to do with them, especially because none of us knew how to use them. But when the dump closed and the women were out of work we realized the Lord had provided before we knew we had a need. So we started up a machine and figured it out. It wasn't easy and we were afraid of damaging the machines, but we have been learning together.

Then the Lord provided a sewing teacher, which is a testimony in itself of how we met her! We have seen the hand of God at work through this project. Many of the woman wouldn’t smile before, and now they hug each other and have the brightest smiles. Some of the women have been healed of illnesses and God is changing hearts. There is one woman who is now serving with us in another area where we minister and she is teaching widows to sew clothes by hand. She never imagined she would be teaching other women. It's amazing to see how God is turning ashes into beauty!

A Record-Breaking Fiscal Year

Iris Global was able to grant a record-breaking $10.3 million during the fiscal year ended September 30, 2025. It’s the most we’ve been able to grant out in Iris’s history. We’re blessed beyond our dreams to steward the donations of God’s people. For example, $1.2 million received for Crisis Response allowed us to support people impacted by Cyclone Chido in northern Mozambique as well as people in crisis around the world. It’s an honor to work with missionaries who are dedicating their lives to see the kingdom of God expand and donors who value the expansion of Gospel.

“God is calling each of us to walk in the mercy and grace He has given us. He prepares us for works of service. Do we see what He sees? Do we feel what He feels? Can we hear the cry of His heart for the lost? This is poverty of spirit. God is calling us to be poor in spirit. When we are poor in spirit, we no longer have to compete. We no longer jostle for titles. When we have no drive to be noticed and known, we are not offended by lack of attention. We find no satisfaction in ministry status. Then we can walk in unity, preferring others above ourselves. Our only desire is to live the life of a humble servant lover of our Lord Jesus.”
