Generous Women: RoseMarie by Janine

Written by Janine

Rosemarie. She is one of the first ladies we shared the gospel with back in May, when we started the Bible group at the field. She received Jesus with such hunger, that she clings to His Word and reads day and night. She lives by the field in a little shack home, made of scrap wood, bamboo, tin, and tarpaulin. Half of her home stretches out over the river that flows in between the dumpsite, held up by bamboo stilts. Because she lives by the water, there are a lot of mosquitos. Tuesday last week, 2 of her children got sick at the same time. Vanessa, 7 years old; and Prince, almost 1 year old. Sunday evening I received a text from Rosemarie. She was worried and sleep deprived and asked if I could pray for her children. They both had a fever for 6 straight days already and were very weak. Prince had difficulty breathing and would cough uncontrollably. He wasn't eating and couldn't be put down or he would cry, shake, and wheeze. And it sounded like Vanessa had dengue. Friends were telling Rosemarie to take her kids to the hospital but she was afraid and they had no money. For days, all they had been eating was rice with salt.
I decided to go over with Roxy. We got there at around 9pm, and spent most of our time praying with Rosemarie over the kids, both asking and thanking Jesus. Roxy held Prince as she prayed and we noticed he began breathing more calmly and fell asleep. We encouraged Rosemarie with a few verses, gave her money for food, and as we were walking out the door, she confidently said, "I know God heard everything. My kids will be okay." Both kids slept straight through the night. The next day, Prince was eating and breathing normally. The fever was gone. Vanessa was still weak and had a slight fever, so she was taken to have a blood test at the local clinic. She ate well that day and had strength enough to walk around outside. The next day, Tuesday, her fever was gone, her strength was back, and the blood test came back - no dengue, she was very healthy!
A couple days ago, Rosemarie texted me.. "I think God is blessing me, it is raining so hard and the wind is strong. My roof is leaking in too many places. And suddenly I realize how surely I've received Him. Here I am now holding my Bible, notebook, and ball pen, writing down every verse I read. I haven't eaten but I don't feel hungry because even just reading the Word of God, I'm so full already. All I'm doing is reading but I can't stop laughing; I feel like a crazy person just laughing here by myself for no reason! I know God is really the one who will provide for all of our needs, I just lift up all my burdens to Him. I know He won't give me anything too big for me to handle. I like what it says here in Romans 8:17-18, "We are the children of God: and if children, then heirs; heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with Him, that we may be also glorified together. For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us." I laugh at my problems! He hears my cries and nothing is impossible with Him.
Little funny side note... Roxy had just washed her brand new white converse shoes. While we were driving over that Sunday she said, "Oh no! It's raining... the field is going to be really muddy and I have newly washed white shoes on!" to which I responded, "You can wait in the car if you want. I don't know how long I'll be but you can pray from here." She thought about it for a while and then decided she wanted to come with me. So we walked around puddles and went to Rosemarie's house. All that stuff happens... We get back in the car and she looks at her shoes. They were still clean. Haha! God has a sense of humor! He knows how to love His kids.
