During the recent holidays we ran a holiday programme, with an Olympic theme, for the children of our centre. This entailed our own version of the Olympic Games, doing a two week sports tournament with them, complete with an opening march past ceremony, lighting the Olympic flame, various sporting disciplines, medals, and a closing ceremony. Each child on the centre from the toddlers in the baby house through to the oldest youth being split into one of four countries (Australia, Brazil, Mozambique and America) competing or supporting their teams in Basketball, Soccer, Volleyball and an Athletics day. It was a lot of fun, for the kids, staff and missionaries alike. It not only kept them entertained but gave us the opportunity to expose them to various sports and have a taste of what sports tournaments like. While it may have been a lot of work to organize it was all worthwhile when you saw the utter delight and joy in the kids’ faces as they competed.
