Getting a make-over

Over the past couple of months there has been a hive of activity as various things around the base have had mini-make overs. As one drives down the road you cannot miss our new entrance and outside wall.

Upon entering the centre, you will hear the joyful giggles of children having fun on their new and improved playgrounds. The base has been blessed with donations that made it possible to redo both the toddlers playground and the main playground. The baby house (age 1-4 years) now has a very child-friendly brightly coloured climbing apparatus, complete with a bridge and tire tunnel where they can play and develop their gross motor muscles. It has a car play area, which has proven very popular. Not only is it fun but it is developing their creativity through imaginary play, with them going on trips to the shops, beach and other fun places. There is also tire horses, which they love to ride, especially since some of them have had an opportunity to go horse riding at a local stable.

The older childrens playground is just as awesome, and you're almost always guaranteed to see children playing. They're there every available moment they have…. The new swing set is particularly popular, the poor swings have worked non –stop since their arrival; only resting during lunch time when the children are enjoying their food at the cafeteria. The new climbing apparatus, slides, ropes, tires, monkey bars and a climbing wall have provided much fun for all the children, as they develop their strength and confidence. Their excitement when the playground was opened could not be contained, and their smiles and joy as they played was priceless…

We have also recently built a meeting room, and an office for the directors. These are probably the most noticeable “home-improvements” but our talented and dedicated maintenance crew are continually chipping away each day at the never-ending list of things to build and repair; replacing the “kinisoo” fences, laying down a concrete pathway, clearing a blocked drain, tiling the showers in the visitor compound, fixing wiring, building cupboards, etc. etc .… to keep the centre running smoothly.
