Children's Day

Written by Valerie Ruco

What a privilege it was to celebrate children’s day on and around 1st June. We loved having 100 kids from the Bocaria, rubbish dump, here to celebrate. Such joy and fun as they sang and danced to the Lord and then great big smiles as they enjoyed a chicken feast and received some presents. Then we did an outreach on the streets of Maputo to kids who live on the streets giving them a gift of a chicken dinner and the chance to hear how much God loves them. Finally we celebrated each of our own 250 kids who live with us on the Zimpeto base. Going dorm to dorm for present giving was a highlight as we saw little faces light up as they received new clothes, toys and games. Of course children’s day wouldn’t have been complete without a dance off between the dorms while we filled every available space in the dining room with plates of chicken, rice and salad and a soda for our great family feast. From the babies right up to the teenagers the day was enjoyed by all. Thanks to everyone who made such a great day of celebrating our precious children possible.
