As this is my first post I would like to take the opportunity to tell you more about the country and people of Guinea, the nation God has called me to..
Guinea is a country about the size of the United Kingdom and it is situated on the west coast of Africa bordered by Guinea-Bissau, Senegal and Mali on the northern border, and Sierra Leonne, Liberia and the Ivory Coast on the southern border.
There are almost 12 million people living in Guinea, and although the land is rich in natural resources like bauxite, alumina, diamonds and gold, about 80% of the working population are employed in the agricultural sector.
The population of Guinea is comprised of 24 ethnic groups.
Those following the news will know that this country has been the centre of a serious outbreak of Ebola in recent years which left thousands dead and many women widowed and many children orphaned.
I, Sia Elsabeth Tongu, moved to Guinea in 2010 after spending four years working with Andrew Sesay, the base leader at Iris Ministries in Sierra Leone.
I moved to the city of Conakry where I set up a ministry based on the Iris Global ethic of stopping for the one. This included widows, orphans, prisoners and anyone else we came across who needed help. and to know the love of Jesus.
I was joined by like minded people who love the Lord and we preached in season and out, and have planted ten churches in the last seven years. We also have a small children's home and a ministry that feeds the hungry children in our area, We have started a soap making factory to help those who need make money to live on and we have reached out to the prisoners in a nearby jail, visiting them often with food, the Word and encouragement.
God has been so good to us. He has led us, prospered and protected us and made our crooked ways straight.
In His lavish love He has worked all things together for our good and we recently became an official Iris Global base.Over the next few weeks we would like to tell you about the different parts of the ministry we have established with His help.
